This Week on Subliminal Matters

So I hope you're excited to see what I've been up to while I've been away. I have some fun ads to share but I must say to every single visitor thanks for coming back. SM is about to hit 5,000 visitors and I think that most certainly is a milestone. Thanks for the emails and I even had a few comments while I was away which was pretty cool. Although I haven't been posting I've most certainly been collecting and I am buzzing with excitement to share, hope you enjoy!

Great Britain Appeal

Quote: "Countryside is Great Britain. Culture is Great Britain"

Subliminal Matters: A visit to Great Britain could be as boring as this billboard.

Location: William St

Ad Review: I've never been to the UK and I've got to say after walking home and seeing this ad daily for a month, this billboard has completely failed to appeal to me. Now, I realise that the English are not known for vibrance and fun, but I feel like this billboard just served up the commercial version of the most boring tea time imaginable. Boring. It could also be because my idea of a great vacation is not the English countryside, although I'm positive it is beautiful and just like I imagined in my Jane Austen readings.

Actually, I think Jane Austen has more chance of changing my mind about wanting to go see the English countryside. Well that, and the idea of meeting my beautiful English friends there.
A read of Sense & Sensibility while visiting an English countryside just started to sound like a fascinating vacation after all. Too bad the advertising company didn't do much to incite those feelings...or did it? Subtlety thy name is Great Britain.

  1. Actually have you seen the 'Heritage is great' version of this ad? (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/picturegalleries/uknews/8779185/GREAT-Britain-The-government-unveils-tourism-campaign-with-a-series-of-postcards.html) Ironically as someone displaced three times because of British colonialism I'd say my heritage is British (but you are right no appeal to go to Britain what so ever!)
