This Week on Subliminal Matters

So I hope you're excited to see what I've been up to while I've been away. I have some fun ads to share but I must say to every single visitor thanks for coming back. SM is about to hit 5,000 visitors and I think that most certainly is a milestone. Thanks for the emails and I even had a few comments while I was away which was pretty cool. Although I haven't been posting I've most certainly been collecting and I am buzzing with excitement to share, hope you enjoy!

Subliminal Matters: illiteracy in  aboriginal communities, Australian aboriginal kids, education

Location Ad 1: Bondi Junction, Eastgate
Location Ad 2: reposted on Facebook, can't be sure of location but it is likely to be from Auckland NZ, (according to the fb locator near Mascot)

Ad Review:

Below this review you'll find another version of this advertisement.
The reposter of the ad works in Auckland so it's highly likely that that's where it was located. I think the message in both versions is clear, subliminal and other wise, it's obvious that the ads are requesting the assistance of the reader in solving this problem of illiteracy amongst aboriginal kids, "Hands up who cares?"

Including the face of an aboriginal child is obviously meant to put a face to the cause. Usually, when you see advertisements with children in it, they've been placed in the ad to connect with the reader, especially readers that love kids and have some of their own. The connection however, has clearly failed with these facebook users below. Funny enough, since I've been doing this project I've wondered what other people's reaction to advertisements are like. If it's anything like these fb reactions, I'm thinking I might NOT want to know after all. It's now confirmed, a mind is indeed a terrible thing to waste...
